Well known Alaskan artist Gail Niebrugge is teaching a Summer Art Workshop in Palmer, Alaska, July 14-18, 2008, for any interested artist.  The class will spend several mornings in the field to sketch and photograph and return to Mountain Springs B&B to paint.  Acrylic and/or watercolor are acceptable.  Skills Gail will teach; finding subjects to paint, using thumbnail sketches, composition, under painting, color theory, and techniques in acrylic or watercolor.  Our goal is to complete several finished paintings.

Class Includes:

• Instruction 9-5 Monday through Friday

• Paint palette, mediums, use of easel

• Lunch Monday-Friday

• Sunday prior to class: informal group sightseeing

• End of week banquet

We ask that you purchase canvas/painting surfaces from the sponsor, Rosamond K Studio.  Additional paints, brushes and supplies will be available for sale.  Participants are limited to 15.  Reserve your space early with a $200 deposit*  For reservations call Gail at (907) 746-3256.  Price for class - $925.00 US

*If classes are cancelled because we cannot fill them, deposit money will be refunded.  Class should be paid in full by May 1, 2008.

NOTE:  We purposely scheduled this class to be at the height of the Alaskan wildflower season, and hopefully the best weather.  We will be doing some photography and/or plein air painting.  What to bring:  If you have a plein air rig, bring it along.  Include your sketch book, pencils and camera.  Come prepared for weather changes with a light jacket, sunglasses, a visor hat, mosquito repellant, and shoes suitable for walking or hiking.  Also, if you have any special dietary needs, please let us know in advance.  A complete list of supplies will be available upon request.

Accommodations

We will be holding the workshop at the beautiful Mountain Springs B&B, home of Ed and Glynn Strabel.  This log style home on 20 acres overlooks a panoramic view of the Matanuska Valley and Chugach Mountain Range, and is located just 3 miles from the entrance to Hatchers' Pass and the historic Independence Gold Mine.  Rates for rooms vary from $35 US per night to $65 US per night, including breakfast.  When making reservations, mention this workshop to receive the group rate.  In order to attend the informal sightseeing excursion, you will need to make reservations for Saturday night through Friday night of the workshop.  Call Glynn Strabel for B&B reservations at: (907) 745-4190
